What is Thought Field Therapy?
Thought Field Therapy (TFT) was developed by Dr Roger Callahan, a clinical
psychologist in the US, over 30 years ago and has been officially recognised
by the NHS Trust Association as a complementary therapy. It is a fast,
effective and painless way to help cope with, and often eliminate, fears,
anxieties, trauma, addictions and other emotional problems.
What can Thought Field Therapy treat?
TFT is commonly used to treat and deal with phobias, such as fear of
flying, fear of dentists and fear of heights. It can be used to treat
addictions, including smoking, as well as anxieties over relationships
problems, illnesses, redundancy, work-related stress and panic attacks.
As a non-invasive, non-talking therapy treatment, TFT is ideally suited
for post traumatic stress disorders relating to bereavements, road traffic
accidents and illness diagnosis.
What happens during a treatment?
During a treatment you will be asked to think about a particular problem
and quantify it on a scale of 1 to 10 as to how distressed you are about
it; 1 representing no distress and 10 the highest level of distress.
You do not need to talk about your problem so TFT is a very suitable
treatment in cases of trauma and other delicate issues. You will be
taken through a specific sequence of tapping at points on your own body.
The tapping is undertaken by you so you remain in control at all times.
Results can be achieved in as little as fifteen minutes with patients
reporting that their distress levels have fallen, e.g. from 8 at the
start of a treatment to 1 by the end of it.
